Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has put more burden on solar consumers. The price of AMI meter has been increased from 35,000 to 70,000 rupees, as reported by national media.
According to the notification issued in this regard, now only AMI meters will be installed on solar consumers’ connections. LESCO sources said that the price of AMI meter is 70,000 rupees.
Sources further said that earlier the price of the meter was around 35,000 rupees, supply of connections to applicant solar consumers has been stopped, the step is being taken on the instructions of the Ministry of Energy.
A few days ago, incidents of theft of solar panels from government schools in Punjab during the years 2022 and 2023 came to light.
After revelations of theft of solar panels from schools, the Public Accounts Committee directed the police to investigate the incidents of solar panel theft in the province.
According to the report, solar panels were stolen from 50 schools of Rajanpur alone in 2022–23, the committee expressed concern over the theft of solar panels.
A meeting of Punjab Public Accounts Committee Three was held under the chairmanship of Tanveer Aslam Malik. Tanveer Aslam Malik said that strict letters will be written to DPOs of the districts where solar panels were stolen from schools.
Tanveer Aslam Malik said that the Education Department is not ready to take any responsibility, the department is putting the responsibility on the District Health Authority. The committee directed that how many schools were subjected to theft and how much recovery was made? This should be investigated.
