A critical flood situation persists in Punjab’s three major rivers—Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej—while the surging waters are now moving towards Sindh.
The floods have caused breaches in several embankments, submerging hundreds of settlements. So far, at least 12 people have lost their lives, while dozens remain missing.
The Pakistan Army has launched rescue operations using boats, and troops have also been called in Lodhran to assist with evacuations.
Rising Waters in Ravi
Water levels in the Ravi River continue to rise, with Shahdara in Lahore experiencing high flood levels. Authorities have directed residents along the riverbanks to evacuate to safer areas.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), around 180,000 cusecs of water are currently passing through Shahdara, a figure expected to swell to nearly 200,000 cusecs.
At Head Baloki, the water level has risen sharply, while in Shakargarh, the breach of an embankment at Bhiko Chak has flooded multiple villages.
Chenab and Sutlej Devastation
Flood surges in Chenab and Sutlej have inundated surrounding villages and destroyed standing crops. Several smaller embankments have collapsed, while house roof collapses and drownings have also contributed to the confirmed fatalities.
At Head Qadirabad, the danger of an embankment breach has been averted, but in Chiniot, authorities have placed explosives to create a controlled breach if required.
Evacuations Underway
So far, over 500 families have been relocated to safer areas. In Kasur, water flow has surged to 263,000 cusecs, flooding nearby villages and forcing mass evacuations.
Rescue teams and district administrations remain on high alert, with sirens sounded to warn residents in vulnerable areas.
