Spanish actress Verónica Echegui has died at the age of 42 following a private battle with cancer, leaving Spain’s film industry and global fans in mourning.
She was admitted to a Madrid hospital on Sunday, where she tragically passed away. The news shocked many, as her illness had been kept largely private.
Born in Madrid in 1983, Echegui began her career with small television roles before achieving stardom with her breakout performance in Yo Soy la Juani (2006).
Over nearly two decades, she appeared in more than 30 films and television projects, including My Prisoner’s Yard (2008), The Cold Light of Day (2012) alongside Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver, Explota Explota (2020), and Objetos (2022).
Her international work included roles in the British series Fortitude (2015–2017), the romantic comedy Book of Love, and most recently, the Apple TV+ series Love You to Death, which became her final on-screen role.
Beyond her acting achievements, Echegui was widely respected for her courage in speaking out against sexual abuse in the entertainment industry.
