The California Senate unanimously passed a resolution on the occasion of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, appreciating the role of the Pakistani-American community and expressing a commitment to further strengthen Pakistan-US relations.
The resolution was presented by Senator Melissa Hurtado, the youngest female member of the California Senate. She appeared in the Senate wearing traditional Pakistani attire and henna. Senator Hurtado said that the sacrifices and services of the Pakistani-American community are being honored.
She added that Pakistan-US relations are based on shared values such as democracy, human dignity, and resilience.
On this occasion, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, was also present. He thanked for the resolution, saying that this move reflects the strong ties between the peoples of both countries.
A large number of Pakistani-Americans reside in California, playing a prominent role in the state’s economy and culture.
