KARACHI: An incident of harassment surfaced in Sohrab Goth where a rickshaw driver allegedly harassed a woman passenger.
The victim, showing remarkable courage, recorded the ordeal on her mobile phone despite being in danger.
The video later went viral on social media.
According to police officials, a case has been registered against the accused under charges of harassment and attempted abduction.
The video shows the woman shouting at the rickshaw driver, demanding that he drop her back at the point where she was picked up.
During this time, the driver can be seen repeatedly leaning towards the passenger seat while standing outside the rickshaw.
DIG East strongly condemned the incident, stating that harassment of citizens, especially women, will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed immediate action, following which the suspect was arrested.
Sohrab Goth SHO Mumtaz Marwat praised the victim’s bravery, noting that despite being in a deserted area and under distress, she managed to record the incident on video, which has become vital evidence for ensuring justice.
Police officials said that investigations are underway, and strict legal action will be taken against the accused. Authorities further reaffirmed their commitment that incidents of harassment against women will not be tolerated.
