The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a report on the losses caused by heavy rains and flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to PDMA, 341 people have died so far. Another 178 people are injured. The victims include 292 men, 28 women, and 21 children. Among the injured are 144 men, 24 women, and 10 children.
The deaths occurred in Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Battagram, and Swabi. A total of 420 houses were damaged. Out of these, 281 were partially damaged and 139 completely destroyed.
Buner is the worst-affected district. Here, 222 people lost their lives. In Swabi, yesterday’s flash floods killed 11 people and injured 20 others.
The PDMA has warned of more heavy rainfall from August 17 to 19. The current spell of rain may continue until August 21.
Relief operations are under way. On the directives of the Chief Minister, 89 trucks of relief items have reached the affected districts. These include tents, mattresses, bedding, kitchen sets, tarpaulins, mats, mosquito nets, generators, and other basic goods.
