The death toll from flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen dramatically, with more than 340 people killed in just two days as heavy rains and cloudbursts wreaked havoc across the province.
Officials confirmed that Buner district has been the worst hit, recording over 200 deaths and at least 120 injuries in the past 48 hours. Nearly 50 people remain missing.
Other districts have also suffered heavy losses: Shangla reported 36 deaths, Mansehra 23, Swat 22, Bajaur 21, Battagram 15, Lower Dir 5, and Abbottabad 1, where a child drowned in the floodwaters.
The floods have left behind widespread destruction. At least 11 houses were completely washed away and another 63 homes partially damaged. Educational infrastructure has also been hit, with two schools in Swat and one in Shangla destroyed.
In Swat, electricity supply collapsed after floodwaters entered the 132KV grid station. At least 41 feeders tripped, plunging the valley into darkness.
Rescue operations are in full swing. More than 2,000 workers have been deployed to retrieve bodies, clear debris, and assist survivors. Relief teams continue to search for missing persons while providing food, shelter, and medical aid to those displaced.
