In Buner, 75 people have died due to torrential rains and floodwaters, after which an emergency has been imposed across the district. Deputy Commissioner Buner Kashif Qayyum confirmed the death of 75 people, including 25 women and 18 children.
According to details, torrential rains and floodwaters have caused devastation in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts of Buner and Swat, resulting in 75 deaths in Buner and 5 deaths in Swat. Among the deceased are also 8 schoolchildren.
Deputy Commissioner Buner Kashif Qayyum stated that an emergency has been imposed in the district, while relief operations are ongoing in the affected areas. Rescue operations are being carried out in difficult-to-reach areas by helicopter.
Pir Baba Bazaar and the adjoining neighborhood have been completely submerged, a mosque has been destroyed in Gokand, and a large number of livestock have also been killed.
Roads are blocked at various points and the exact number of missing persons could not be confirmed; the correct number of missing people will only be known after the floodwaters recede.
Meanwhile, floodwaters have also caused destruction in Swat, with Mingora city submerged, and land access to Mulla Baba, Haji Baba, Khwazakhela, and Marghazar cut off. Several houses have been washed away and 3 people are missing. Due to water entering homes, many people have taken shelter on rooftops.
Due to flooding in the Swat River and nearby streams, hundreds of people are stranded and waiting for government assistance.
According to PDMA, a total of 30 houses have been damaged by the flood, while heavy rains are expected to continue intermittently until August 21.
