An FIR has been registered following the murder of senior lawyer Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam, who was killed yesterday in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6 area. Imran Afridi, son of the deceased lawyer’s former guard, confessed to the murder in a video statement. The legal community, including the Karachi Bar Association, is protesting over the killing of the senior lawyer.
According to details, one person was killed in the firing incident while two others, including his son, were injured. The accused turned out to be the son of Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam’s former gunman. The murder case has been registered at Darakhshan Police Station on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Khawaja Faiz-ul-Islam.
According to police officials, seven individuals have been nominated in the FIR, which includes sections related to terrorism, murder, and other charges.
DIG South Asad Raza stated that the killer of Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam is Imran Afridi, son of his former gunman, who has confessed to the crime. The accused had also attacked Khawaja Shams a few months ago.
In his video statement, the accused said there was a monetary dispute of 3.5 million rupees between Shams-ul-Islam and his father, and that Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam had his father killed.
According to DIG South, the accused claims that Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam had his father murdered in 2021. Meanwhile, CCTV footage of the recent attack on the lawyer has surfaced.

On the other hand, the legal community is in protest. Karachi Bar Association President Aamir Warraich stated that the murder of senior lawyer Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam occurred due to police negligence and carelessness. He added that prominent lawyers had been attacked in the past as well.
The Karachi Bar President said a strike would be held on August 2 against the murder of Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam, and further actions will be announced. He also demanded a thorough investigation into the senior lawyer’s killing.
