At least nine bullets were fired at comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Canada, which had opened just a few days earlier. Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi has claimed responsibility for the shooting, in which no one was injured.
The café, named Caps Café, marks Kapil Sharma’s first venture into the restaurant industry, and his wife Ginni Chatrath is also involved in the project. Located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, the café had recently undergone a soft launch.

The café had its soft launch on July 7, 2025, and was rapidly gaining popularity among the local Indian community. However, just three days after the opening, on the night of July 9, 2025, unknown assailants opened fire on the café, causing panic in the local community.
According to the Surrey Police Service (SPS), the shooting occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. local time. Upon arrival at the scene, police found at least 10 bullet marks on the café’s windows, one of which was completely shattered. Fortunately, there were no casualties, although some staff members were inside at the time. Police cordoned off the area and began reviewing CCTV footage, while forensic investigations are ongoing.
Harjit Singh Laddi, currently based in Germany, claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post. He stated that the attack was in response to comments made in Kapil Sharma’s show The Great Indian Kapil Show regarding the attire and behavior of Nihang Sikhs, which he claimed hurt his religious sentiments.
