The upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, initially scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, may be relocated after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formally requested a change of venue, Indian media reports revealed.
According to multiple outlets, the BCCI has expressed reluctance to send its delegation to Dhaka due to ongoing “security and political concerns.” The Indian cricket board has officially communicated its reservations to the ACC and proposed shifting the meeting to a neutral location.
This move follows the BCCI’s recent decision to postpone a bilateral series with Bangladesh, previously set for August, reportedly over similar safety issues.
The development raises further questions, especially as India is set to host the 2025 Asia Cup. If the venue remains unchanged, reports suggest the BCCI may opt out of the meeting entirely.
Meanwhile, preparations for the 2025 Asia Cup continue, though uncertainty lingers regarding India’s participation in matches against defending champions Pakistan due to persistent geopolitical tensions.
Despite the strained relations, sources maintain that India and Pakistan are still expected to face off in ICC and ACC competitions, as no official instructions have been issued by either board to prevent such encounters.
As per the tentative schedule, the Asia Cup is set to be held in the UAE from September 5 to 21. The much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash is likely to take place on September 7 in Dubai, with the possibility of a rematch during the Super Four stage.
The 17th edition of the Asia Cup will adopt the T20 format and will feature six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE.
