Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) at PM House today to discuss in detail the regional situation, after the US attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites.
The NSC, chaired by the prime minister and comprising the top brass of both civil and military leadership, is the highest forum for security deliberations.
As per media reports, senior civil and military leadership would attend the meeting.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will also be in attendance.
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir will brief the participants on his recent tour to the United States, the sources said, and added that some important decisions were expected to be taken at today’s huddle.
The meeting, which is expected to take place at noon, will also take stock of the country’s internal situation as well as its borders.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday afternoon and conveyed Pakistan’s condemnation of the US attacks on Iran.
Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the brotherly people and Government of Iran, while expressing heartfelt condolences on the loss of precious lives and praying for the swift recovery of the injured.
