In a bizarre incident, a complaint has been filed against the star player of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Virat Kohli, over the June 4 stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru that left 11 dead and dozens injured.
The complaint, lodged at Cubbon Park Police Station by social activist HM Venkatesh, alleges Kohli promoted “gambling through the IPL”, which incited the crowd and led to the tragedy.
Stampedes occurred at two separate locations during celebrations in the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka, resulting in at least 11 deaths and several injuries.
According to Indian media, the crowd became uncontrollable when a large number of fans gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a ceremony was organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association to honor the team.
After the victory parade, Virat Kohli expressed condolences to the victims via social media. However, this move sparked outrage among fans, who heavily criticized him for continuing the victory parade despite the tragic incident.
On the orders of Karnataka’s Chief Minister, 11 members of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team management have been taken into custody.
Reports now suggest that a formal complaint has also been filed against renowned Indian cricketer Virat Kohli at Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park Police Station. However, police sources confirm that no FIR has been registered against him.
Police have stated that the complaint will be reviewed in the context of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru High Court has sent four officials of the Royal Challengers Bangalore to 14 days of judicial custody.
