Saba Qamar, showbiz star and UNICEF ambassador in Pakistan, has launched a campaign by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) against child marriage in the country.
In a video message released on Thursday, UNICEF urged communities to take a stand against child marriage and safeguard the rights of children.
In a powerful new video released by UNICEF, Pakistani actress and UNICEF ambassador Saba Qamar underscored the devastating impact of child marriage on girls’ futures and called for collective action to protect children’s rights.
Qamar stressed that no child should be forced into a marriage or a future they did not choose, pointing to the serious consequences for their health, education, and personal freedom. Drawing from her own experience in Sujawal, Sindh, she spoke of meeting young activists like 14-year-old Anam Nazir, who successfully prevented multiple child marriages in her community.

Qamar expressed pride in supporting the campaign and standing up for all children — especially girls — affected by this harmful practice.
Pakistan ranks sixth globally in the number of child brides, with an estimated 19 million girls married before the age of 18. Nearly 50 percent become pregnant before adulthood, exposing them and their children to significant health risks.
Education is also impacted, with only 13 percent of married girls completing secondary school, compared to 44 percent of their unmarried peers.
