Federal Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal has announced that the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–26 is tentatively scheduled to be presented on June 10.
Speaking informally with journalists on Thursday, Bosal stated that preparations are in the final stages and are being carried out in close coordination with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He also noted that virtual discussions with the IMF are resuming today, with relief for salaried individuals and the industrial sector expected to be key points on the agenda. Bosal further indicated that the date for the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting may be revised, while the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) meeting remains unscheduled.
In a related development, the Finance Secretary revealed that $800 million in funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is anticipated to be approved on June 3.
Meanwhile, sources within the Finance Ministry have hinted at possible delays in the budget presentation due to Eid ul Adha, which is expected to fall on June 7 and 8 (Saturday and Sunday). To accommodate the critical economic proceedings, officials are considering declaring June 9—a Monday and the third day of Eid—a working day.
However, logistical constraints have emerged. Both the NEC meeting and the launch of the Economic Survey 2025 are planned for June 9, which officials argue is impractical.
The NEC meeting, which typically runs an entire day, involves top leadership from the federal government and all provinces, as well as representatives from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Given that there is usually a two-day interval between the NEC meeting and the federal budget presentation, officials suggest the budget may now be moved to June 12.
This would mark the second delay in the budget presentation. It was initially scheduled for June 2 but was postponed to June 10 due to ongoing fiscal negotiations with the IMF, which have yet to produce a breakthrough.
