The Punjab government has reformed the civil registration process, eliminating all fees for birth and death registrations across the province.
These changes, effective immediately under the newly enacted Punjab Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025, are designed to enhance accessibility and reduce procedural hurdles for citizens.
Under the new regulations, individuals can now register births and deaths at Union Councils and Municipal Committees without any charge for up to seven years from the date of occurrence. Moreover, computerized certificates for these events will also be issued free of cost within this timeframe.
A key feature of the updated rules is the removal of the requirement for a court decree for late registrations, thereby simplifying the process considerably.
The standard registration period has also been extended from 60 days to one year. However, for registrations delayed beyond seven years, a court decree is no longer needed, but applicants must publish a notice in a newspaper and pay the applicable registration fee.
The revised rules, officially published in the Punjab Gazette, are part of a broader governmental effort to improve public service delivery by making it more transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric.
