At the United Nations, Pakistan’s Counselor Saima Saleem told India in unequivocal terms to end state terrorism and begin meaningful dialogue.
According to details, Saima Saleem made these remarks during the Security Council’s open debate in response to India’s statement. She stated that once again, India has resorted to disinformation, deflection, and denial. India’s vague statements cannot hide the facts.
Speaking clearly, Saima Saleem said that India indiscriminately kills and injures civilians in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and targets civilians by launching unprovoked attacks on Pakistan. Referring to the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada and the conspiracy to assassinate Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh in the U.S., Saima Saleem reminded the Security Council that India sponsors terrorism and targeted killings not only in Pakistan but around the world.
Saima Saleem said that Pakistan, along with the international community, condemned the Pahalgam incident. If India had nothing to hide, it should have agreed to an impartial, credible, and independent investigation of the incident.
Criticizing the Modi government’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty following the Pahalgam incident, Saima Saleem said that India has tried to block the flow of rivers that are a lifeline for Pakistan’s 240 million people. Water is life, not a weapon of war.
Counselor Saima Saleem reminded members that between May 6 and 10, India committed open aggression against Pakistan and launched unprovoked attacks targeting innocent civilians. These attacks resulted in the martyrdom of 40 civilians, including 7 women and 15 children, while 121 people were injured, including 10 women and 27 children.
Pointing to the recent brutal acts of terrorism in Pakistan, Saima Saleem said that India continuously provides financial and operational support to terrorist groups such as the TTP, BLA, and Majeed Brigade, whose goal is to kill innocent civilians in Pakistan. On May 21, in a cowardly attack on a school bus in Khuzdar district of Balochistan, innocent children’s lives were lost and dozens were injured.
In the Security Council debate, Saima Saleem said that if India is truly committed to the principles of peace, security, and good neighborliness, it should end state terrorism, stop the oppression of the Kashmiri people, adhere to international laws, the UN Charter, and bilateral agreements, and begin meaningful dialogue for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
