The administration of Naushahro Feroze district has imposed Section 144 in Moro for 30 days amid violent protests, citing the deteriorating law and order situation.
According to the official notification, a complete ban has been imposed on all types of public gatherings, rallies, protests, and the movement or display of arms or any kind of weapons.
This decision was made in light of the recommendations by Deputy Commissioner Arslan Saleem and Senior Superintendent of Police Sanghar Malik, while Commissioner Moro Nadeem Abro cited the current circumstances as the main reason for the imposition of Section 144.
On Tuesday, enraged members of nationalist organizations, protesting against the controversial canal project on the Indus River, set fire to the residence of Sindh’s Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar and also torched several containers parked on the National Highway.
This violent protest was held in Moro, Naushahro Feroze, against the ongoing controversial canal project, which involved violent clashes, arson, and confrontations with the police.
Sindh’s Interior Minister confirmed that his residence in Moro had been set on fire. According to the police, the protesters attacked both the police and personnel of the Highway Security Organization and looted sacks of fertilizer from a trailer before fleeing on motorcycles.
Due to this unrest, the National Highway was closed, further escalating tension in the area.
Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has asked the SSP of Naushahro Feroze for a complete report on the incident. He stated that those who challenge the writ of the state will be dealt with with an iron hand.
