Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in the Republic of Belarus on Thursday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, and diplomacy.
Upon his arrival in Minsk, Prime Minister Shehbaz was warmly received by Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin, alongside senior officials from the Pakistan Embassy in Belarus.
Accompanying the premier is a high-level delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the PM Tariq Fatemi.
During the April 10–11 visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to hold important talks with President Lukashenko to review progress in existing areas of mutual interest and identify new avenues for cooperation. The discussions will build upon a series of recent high-level engagements between the two nations.
“In the past six months, Pakistan and Belarus have advanced bilateral ties through multiple diplomatic exchanges, including the 8th Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in February 2025 and a subsequent visit by a mixed ministerial delegation to Belarus earlier this month,” the Foreign Office stated.
A number of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit to further bolster cooperation in trade, education, agriculture, and industrial development.
This visit also marks a follow-up to the signing of a three-year Roadmap for Comprehensive Cooperation (2025–2027), inked in November last year. The roadmap, hailed by Islamabad as a “key outcome” of ongoing diplomatic efforts, has already laid a foundation for stronger economic engagement between the two countries.
“The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the strategic importance Pakistan places on its partnership with Belarus,” the FO added.
The visit is expected to culminate in a delegation-level meeting, highlighting the commitment of both sides to expand ties and translate diplomatic goodwill into tangible cooperation.
