The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has implemented innovative measures to combat power theft and enhance safety standards across Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib.
Scanning meters and aerial bundled cables have been installed on distribution transformers in high-theft regions, while insulated conductors have been added in key areas like GOR, Cantt, Johar Town, and Gulberg to ensure secure and reliable power supply.
In a significant step forward, LESCO has launched a Health, Safety, and Environment Directorate aimed at promoting a culture of safety, preventing accidents, and improving working conditions for employees and the general public.
As part of its extensive five-year plan, the company is rolling out 535,000 smart meters, with 55,000 already operational. These devices have proven effective, helping LESCO recover Rs4.23 billion from detection bills and Rs35.12 billion from private defaulters, while curbing electricity theft.
LESCO CEO Engr Shahid Haidar emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating that insulated conductors installed in greenery-dense areas further enhance safety. He highlighted the Directorate’s role in fostering safety awareness and minimizing risks.
These efforts underline LESCO’s commitment to improving operational efficiency, ensuring security, and creating a sustainable energy infrastructure for the communities it serves.
