The Punjab Health Department has suspended 19 nurses from BS-16 to BS-19 across various hospitals in Lahore for violating official regulations.
According to sources, these nurses were found guilty of misconduct, including taking unauthorized leaves by paying bribes, working as instructors in nursing colleges during duty hours, and being absent without prior approval.
This disciplinary action follows an earlier crackdown by the health department. On March 12, 2025, proceedings were initiated under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline, and Accountability (Peeda) Act against three staff nurses at Mayo Hospital.
These nurses—Sonila Khalid, Saima Sehar, and Nazia Hassan—were accused of administering adulterated drugs that caused adverse reactions in 16 patients, resulting in the deaths of two.
Following an inquiry committee’s findings, the department removed the three nurses from their positions and instructed them to report to the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department until further notice.
The Punjab Health Department has vowed to take strict action against any negligence in the healthcare sector to ensure patient safety and uphold professional standards.
