U.S. adult film actress Whitney Wright has ignited controversy after visiting Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, drawing criticism from activists who highlighted the regime’s strict restrictions on women, including prohibiting them from leaving home without a male guardian.
The 33-year-old Oklahoma native shared images from her trip on social media, showcasing Afghanistan’s historical landmarks such as the Herat Citadel and the Green Mosque in Balkh.
These posts marked a stark contrast to her usual content, which primarily features lingerie shoots and explicit material.

Among the shared images was a now-deleted photograph of Wright posing with what appeared to be an AK-47 at Band-e Amir National Park, as well as a picture of her on a swing set in a public park.
Her Instagram post, captioned simply “Afghanistan,” also included aesthetic snapshots of her visit. Wright has previously traveled to other Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon.
Despite enforcing strict moral laws and severely limiting the rights of women and girls since seizing power in 2021, the Taliban did not publicly acknowledge Wright’s visit, according to The Associated Press.
However, the regime has been actively promoting Afghanistan as a destination for foreign tourists, citing improved security and a rebranded image of the country. Some international travelers have visited in recent years, encouraged by the relative decline in violence.
