The All Primary Teachers Association (APTA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has threatened to lock all primary schools in the province until the notification for teacher upgradation is issued.
The President of APTA announced the decision to lock the schools across the province starting tomorrow, stating that the government has not issued the notification for primary teacher upgradation, despite it being approved by the provincial cabinet.
“Despite our continuous protests and dialogue with the government, the notification has not been issued, so we are compelled to take this extreme step and lock all primary schools in the province starting tomorrow as a form of protest,” he said.
He added that 26,000 primary schools will remain locked, and over 100,000 teachers will take to the streets to demand their right to upgrade.
In January 2023, the KPK provincial cabinet approved an upgradation plan for various teaching cadres, which included raising the pay scale of primary school teachers (PSTs) from BPS-12 to BPS-14. This decision was intended to take effect from July 1, 2023, benefiting approximately 51,736 teachers across the province. However, despite this approval, the implementation has yet to be enforced.
