Eight former employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have won an unfair dismissal case in a London court, securing a compensation order of £500,000 (approximately Rs200 million).
The employees, who were dismissed two years ago, successfully challenged the national airline’s decision, arguing that their terminations were unjust.
The ex-employees, who had been with PIA for periods ranging from 5 to 15 years, filed the lawsuit shortly after their dismissal, claiming wrongful termination. After a legal battle, the London court ruled in their favor, ordering PIA to compensate the affected individuals. PIA has agreed to pay the £500,000 in damages to the eight former staff members. This is a big blow to the company amid a severe finincial crisis.
It should be noted that PIA is already facing a financial crisis while the government of Pakistan has decided to privatize the national airline. The long process of the privatization of PIA is now at the last stage and will be completed next month.
