The Sindh government has announced a new grading policy for matriculation and intermediate exams, following the lead of the Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (FBISE) in Islamabad.
This initiative is part of efforts to modernize the education system. Under the new policy, students will be awarded grades instead of traditional numerical marks, and the previous ranking system of first, second, and third positions will be eliminated.
This new grading policy will take effect in 2025. It replaces conventional marks and ranking with a grading system based on percentage scores.
What is new grading system?
According to the formula established by the Inter-Board Coordination Committee (IBCC), the grading scale is as follows:
- A score of 95 or above will earn an A++ (exceptional)
- 90-94 will receive an A+ (Outstanding)
- 85-89 an A (excellent)
- 80-84 a B++ (very good)
- 75-79 a B+ (good)
- 70-74 a B (fairly good)
- 60-69 a C (above average)
- 50-59 a D (average)
- 40-49 an E (below average)
- and any score below 40 will be classified as F (unsatisfactory).
While the FBISE has already implemented this new grading system and pass percentage policy, provinces such as Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan have yet to adopt it.
