The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been removed from the lower house of Pakistan’s parliament as a political party, as per a revised party position list issued by the National Assembly secretariat.
This updated list, reflecting the standings of each political party, excludes disputed reserved seats.
Following a letter from the Speaker to the Election Commission regarding the Election Amendment Act, the revised party positions were outlined and officially notified.
All 80 former PTI members are now listed under the Sunni Ittehad Council. Previously, 39 members were recognized as PTI members, and 41 were considered independents, based on a Supreme Court order issued on July 12. In its interim ruling, the court had stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recognized PTI as a political party, and those MNAs who had filed party tickets before the February 8 elections should be regarded as PTI members.
The revised party composition, announced on Friday, also provides details on seats reclaimed from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI). The update followed the Speaker’s correspondence with the Election Commission.
Under the new composition, PML-N holds 110 seats, the Sunni Ittehad Council has 80 seats, PPP holds 69, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has 22 seats, JUI-F has eight seats, Independents hold eight seats, Pakistan Muslim League-Q has five seats, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) has four seats, while Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMap), Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP), and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) each hold one seat.
If the Election Act is implemented, 23 reserved seats will be distributed among PML-N, PPP, and JUI, with PML-N receiving 15, PPP five, and JUI three.
