A police constable in Quetta has shot and killed an elderly man inside a prison, who was accused of disrespecting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) after his alleged video went viral on social media.
The victim, Abdul Ali, was detained by the Kharotabad Police Station on Wednesday, and a case was registered against him under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
A large mob had gathered outside the Kharotabad police station, demanding the handover of the accused.
Videos on X showed a mob attacking the police station and throwing stones, demanding that the accused be handed over to them.
To prevent any violence due to the presence of a large crowd of protesters, the accused was transferred to the Cantt Police Station, a senior police officer told the BBC Urdu.
While Abdul Ali was being held at the police station, a police officer fired shots at him, and the accused succumbed to his wounds.
Police officials stated that the officer who shot the suspect was arrested. An investigation of the incident investigation is currently underway.
