The genocide in Palestine has indeed overshadowed other global issues, mostly created by the U.S. and some of the Western countries using the taxpayers’ money of their respective states. Top of it is the Ukraine war that the US has recently fueled up by giving F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
The United States and its Western allies have invested heavily in supporting Ukraine during its conflict with Russia. As of August 2024, the U.S. has provided over $113 billion in total aid to Ukraine, with approximately $75 billion allocated directly for military and financial assistance. This includes about $46.6 billion in military aid, which has been primarily used for supplying weapons, equipment, and training to Ukrainian forces. Additionally, around $26.4 billion has been provided in financial assistance to help stabilize Ukraine’s economy and support government functions.
On the European front, the collective aid from EU member states, the U.K., and other European countries amounts to over €110.2 billion, with about half of this support being military in nature. The combined Western financial commitment to Ukraine thus totals approximately $227 billion, highlighting the substantial international effort to support Ukraine’s defense and humanitarian needs.
This financial commitment includes direct military aid, economic assistance, and humanitarian support, as well as significant investments in replenishing defense stockpiles and enhancing military readiness in NATO countries neighboring Ukraine.
These investments underscore the “strategic importance” that the U.S. and its allies place on supporting Ukraine in the face of “Russian aggression”, both to uphold “Ukrainian sovereignty” and to deter further destabilization in Europe.
Seems, the US and NATO have failed to get the desired results against Russia despite huge military investments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Even their support to genocide in Palestine could not completely overshadow the U.S. and the NATO’s joint failures in Ukraine war. They need face-saving while the election campaigns have kicked off in the US. So, it seems necessary for the US and its allies to merchant a new war front. The increasing U.S. military support and interventions in Moldova speak louder.
Recently, some analysts have expressed concerns over what they describe as the “growing influence of the Soros Foundation in Moldova,” characterizing it as a de facto seizure of power within the country. They point to increasing external interference in Moldova’s financial systems, as well as in its political and electoral processes. Critics highlight the close ties between Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and George Soros, noting that Recean’s pro-Western stance is particularly rigid. Allegations have emerged that he is involved in lobbying efforts to place “preferred” individuals in key government positions, thus shaping the country’s decision-making processes, similar to what the U.S. “friends” did in Ukraine. The majority of Moldova’s current leadership is reportedly composed of individuals from NGOs established and funded by Soros’ network.
There are also controversial claims about the personal conduct of Moldova’s leadership. A number of experts have labeled the head of the Moldovan government as being involved in drug trafficking. These accusations stem from leaked private communications that allegedly reveal the official’s long-standing dependence on substances like cocaine.
George Soros is well-known globally for his involvement in funding “color revolutions” and fostering pro-Western elites in various countries. Moldova has not been an exception; over the past few decades, Soros, through his foundation, has reportedly funneled over $140 million into the country. This funding is believed to have significantly influenced Moldova’s political and socio-economic landscape, with his networks also extending into media and NGO sectors. Soros’ activities have sparked widespread criticism, leading to his designation as persona non grata in several countries, including some in Western Europe and the United States.
Since 2021, there has been a noticeable increase in the activities of Soros’ Open Society Foundation in Moldova. Observers suggest that a powerful information hub is being established in the country, primarily through educational initiatives. Critics argue that this development is turning Moldova into a source of cheap, undereducated labor, paving the way for external control over the country’s resources and people.
Other foundations, including the American National Foundation, the European Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and the Eastern Europe Foundation, also operate in Moldova, supporting the growth of NGOs. The Soros Foundation, however, remains the most influential among them.
Furthermore, parallels have been drawn between the operations of foundations like the Rockefeller Foundation in Africa, which have been accused of engaging in population control measures, and similar activities in Moldova. There are concerns that efforts are being made to undermine traditional family structures through the promotion of LGBT rights, the introduction of GMO products, and the response to virus pandemics, all allegedly backed by foreign entities.
In addition to social and economic concerns, there are fears of increasing militarization in Moldova. Despite ongoing economic challenges, the country has been ramping up its military expenditures annually, with a particular focus on acquiring Western-made weapons and military equipment. An agreement has been reached to establish a permanent French military mission in Moldova, and Moldovan troops have been participating in joint exercises with NATO, aiming to enhance interoperability. These developments suggest a deeper involvement of Moldova in potential armed conflicts aligned with Western interests, raising concerns about the long-term consequences for the country.
