When an athlete or player receives a gold medal after a lifetime of hard work, it’s certainly difficult to determine the true value of that medal.
However, the value of a gold, silver, or bronze medal can be assessed before it belongs to any athlete.
According to Geo News, the 2024 Olympic Games are currently underway in Paris, the capital of France, where athletes and players who excel in their respective sports are being awarded medals.
In javelin throw, Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem won a gold medal, marking Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medal in 40 years.
But the question arises: How much gold is actually in the Olympic gold medals?
According to the renowned magazine Forbes, the gold medal awarded in the 2024 Olympics weighs 529 grams, but it is composed of 95.4% (505 grams) silver. The medal also contains 18 grams of iron, with only 6 grams of actual gold.
Forbes further states that, based on the prices of gold, silver, and iron as of July 24th, the value of the gold medals given at the Paris Olympics is approximately $950.
This means that the value of the gold in the medal received by Arshad Nadeem is only about PKR 260,000 in Pakistani currency.
