PESHAWAR: A group of female thieves has been preying on commuters using Peshawar’s BRT system, snatching 15 to 20 mobile phones from passengers daily.
Police have taken measures, displaying images of the culprits at BRT stations. According to a report by Peshawar police, this gang is responsible for daily thefts amounting to Rs 300,000 to Rs 400,000 worth of mobile phones. The report has identified 22 women involved in criminal activities spanning 10 stations along the BRT route in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Peshawar city.
Last September, police arrested a four-member female gang engaged in stealing mobile phones, cash, and other valuables from women on the BRT in Peshawar. Two members hailed from Rawalpindi, while the other two were from Imamia Colony Gulbahar, Peshawar.
Police, assisted by female officers, apprehended four women, including the wife and daughter of Sherdil from Rawalpindi and the wife and daughter of Baraan from Imamia Colony Gulbahar. In the operation, police recovered eight valuable mobile phones and cash amounting to thousands of rupees from the arrested gang members. A case was registered against them at the Town police station.
