Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have announced that Wednesday, April 10, will mark the commencement of Eid-ul-Fitr this year, as the Shawwal crescent moon not sighted on Monday evening.
The appearance of the Shawwal moon denotes the conclusion of Ramadan and the onset of Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant Muslim celebration. Eid ul Fitr, occurring in the month of Shawwal, spans three days and encompasses festivities, communal gatherings, prayers, and the exchange of gifts.
It’s worth noting that Saudi Arabia and the UAE observed the beginning of Ramadan on Monday, March 11.
Meanwhile in Pakistan, the Meteorological Office has forecasted that the Shawwal moon will likely be sighted on April 9, with Eid ul Fitr consequently falling on April 10.
According to the PMD, the crescent is expected to emerge on April 8 at 11:21 PM and will be approximately 19 to 20 hours old by the following day’s Maghrib prayer. The crescent will be observable for more than 50 minutes around sunset, as per the PMD’s statement.
