RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday gave a call for a countrywide protest on March 2 against the alleged rigging in the general elections 2024, saying that other political parties will also join them.

PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat says Imran Khan has tasked him with leading the party’s protest against “mandate theft” in Islamabad on Saturday (March 2).

In a post on X, he said the demonstration will be held between 11am and noon. Marwat said protesters will gather at F-9 and march to the National Press Club.

Following a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan, Secretary General Omar Ayub, who is also the party’s candidate for the prime minister’s position, expressed dissatisfaction over what he termed as “widespread” rigging in the elections during a press conference.

Ayub announced that PTI would organize nationwide protests in collaboration with other political parties to denounce the alleged rigging in the polls.

“Our electoral victories were snatched away with a mere stroke of a pen. The public entrusted their mandate to the former PTI chairman. The nation’s mandate and our electoral successes have been undermined,” Ayub lamented.

He emphasized that the victorious PTI-backed candidate possessed the Form-45s, indicating transparency in their electoral process. Ayub also conveyed confidence in the party’s stance after meeting with the imprisoned PTI founder.

Ayub declared that PTI would pursue legal action both in courts and assemblies, asserting, “Our struggle is one of integrity.”

Furthermore, the PTI leader disclosed that the party had nominated Amir Dogar and Junaid Khan for the positions of National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker, respectively.

In a separate statement to the media outside Adiala jail, PTI’s central leader Sher Afzal Marwat revealed that party founder Imran Khan had instructed to organize nationwide protests on Saturday, March 2nd.
