ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat approached the Supreme Court against rigging in the February 8 general elections, praying the apex court to halt the process of formation of federal and provincial governments and set aside the appointment notification for an ECP committee to probe allegations levelled by former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha regarding rigging in elections.
The federal government was named as a respondent in the petition, along with members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, secretary Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, secretary interior, secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and chief secretaries of all four provinces.
Sher Afzal, who was elected MNA from NA-41, filed the petition on Friday under Article 184(3) of the Constitution through advocate Riaz Hanif Rahi.

He prayed the court to annul Form 47, which was created in defiance of Section 13(3) of the Election Act of 2017, for all national and provincial seats. He ordered that all ECP offices refrain from issuing any new orders while the investigation is ongoing and that the process of forming governments be put on hold until the petition’s final conclusion. He claimed that there had been violations of the petitioner’s and the public’s priceless fundamental rights guaranteed by Articles 2-A, 4, 9, 10-A, 25, and 27 (1) of the Constitution.
Sher Afzal also demanded of the court to set aside Form 47 of all the National and Provincial constituencies which have been prepared in violation of Section 13(3) of the Election Act, 2017.
