An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has summoned Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi today in connection with the violent protests that occurred on May 9.
The court has also called upon hundreds of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers as part of the proceedings.
During a hearing on January 25, the court presided over by ATC Judge Malik Aijaz Asif, set Tuesday(today) as the date for the formal indictment of both Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the case. The hearing will take place inside the Adiala Jail compound.
Imran Khan is currently facing nine cases related to the May 9 protests, while Shah Mahmood Qureshi is facing six. It is noteworthy that both individuals have already been sentenced to 10 years in jail in the cipher case.
The May 9 protests erupted nationwide last year following the arrest of Imran Khan by Rangers in the Toshakhana case from the Islamabad High Court. The demonstrations escalated into violence in several locations, leading to attacks on the General Headquarters and the Corps Commander House in Lahore. The unfolding legal proceedings shed light on the consequences of the turbulent events that transpired on that fateful day.
