Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles by Zazie Beetz, who starred in the Oscar-winning “Joker” (2019), and “Oppenheimer” star Jack Quaid.
The Dolby Theater in Hollywood will host the ceremony once more, with Jimmy Kimmel making a fourth appearance as host. Even though that will sound familiar, there may be some firsts with the show: Lily Gladstone, the star of “Killers of the Flower Moon,” is a clear favorite for her role in Martin Scorsese’s historical drama, and she may become the first Native American to win a competitive Academy Award.
Leading up to Tuesday’s announcements, Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” were among the most buzzed-about contenders. Many critics deemed Cillian Murphy’s performance in the former a Best Actor frontrunner upon the film’s release. And “Barbie” has already made history as the first-ever billion-dollar movie directed by a solo woman.
Here is the complete list of nominees. This list will be updated as nominees are announced:
