LOS ANGELES: Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab has secured two Grammy Award nominations this year as nominations for the 67th annual Grammy Awards have been revealed.
The Grammy Awards ceremony is set for February 4, 2024, and will be broadcast live on CBS.
Aftab won a Grammy last year in the Best Global Performance category for her song Mohabbat, making her the first singer from Pakistan to do so.
She is nominated this year for two awards: Best Global Music Performance for new vocal or instrumental global music recordings, and Best Alternative Jazz Album for vocal or instrumental albums with more than 75% playing time of new recordings of alternative jazz.

“I feel like this category [Best Global Performance] in of itself has been insane… it should this be called yacht party category,” Aftab said onstage at the 64th GRAMMY Awards last year, after she won in the category. “I made [this record] about everything that broke me and put me back together. Thank you for listening to it and making it yours.”
The 37-year-old, who has lived in New York for some 15 years, has been steadily gaining global attention for her work that fuses ancient Sufi traditions with folk and jazz.
Aftab traveled to the United States at the age of 19 to attend Boston’s Berklee College of Music, having grown up in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The now-Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter initially won praise from critics for her songs Bird Under Water and Siren Islands in the middle of the 2010s, but it was the delicate, seven-track album Vulture Prince from 2021, which was released in honor of Aftab’s late brother, that catapulted her to fame.
