Prudence, when overdone, is worse than foolishness and there’s no denying that our present young generation’s farsightedness has started to cross the line. Our youth have been presented with a fabricated challenge of competition where they must go up against their own pals for a job. They have to beat their friends down and leave them behind. And to make matters worse, it is viewed as “progress” even though it is nothing but a worse decline.
The fact that, for today’s young man, the quality of life is defined by the soup and shampoo in the morning shower. It can be used to measure how much harm he causes himself by leaving people behind and going on. So when he makes Rs20,000, he finishes his bath with the appropriate soap, toothpaste, mustard oil, and perfume. But as his profession developed and his income rose, so did his need for toiletries.
Soap is added to the list along with shampoo if wages rise from 20,000 to 25,000. Another five thousand in earnings add face wash and body spray to the toiletries. This income boost keeps enhancing the beauty of his bathroom with a selection of lotions. Then, certain creams for face, hair, and lips become necessary. One day, his bathroom is filled with every available bathing item. The fact that his financial success is continuing in a positive path necessitates some new steps from this smarty-pants since he needs to raise his standard of living, which for him, begins in the bathroom.
He therefore thinks that higher income translates into higher spending. Since, there’s nothing left to add to the toiletries, he begins improving the quality of soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, lotions, and scents. Because these products are readily available and sell for thousands of rupees, this journey never ends. Toiletries were only presented as an illustration since this smart aleck also acts absurdly in other areas of life.
He is therefore more anxious now that he is earning Rs100,000 than he was when he was just making 20,000 rupees. And it’s a given that he’ll be far more upset when his paycheck reads “500,000 rupees” than when it said “100,000 rupees.” He is unaware that his Facebook comment, regardless of how pricey this bath is, betrays his standards because it doesn’t demonstrate the results of his soaps, shampoos, or lotions.
A fat paycheck does not indicate a nice person; rather, it merely demonstrates one’s skillset and professionalism. If you are a wonderful physician, a great architect, a great teacher of Bukhari Sharif, or a good accountant, it just demonstrates your proficiency in those professions. To what extent you are a better person is still up for debate.
A man is said to be a better person when he appreciates the value of moderation and learns how to impress others with knowledge, thoughts, and social character rather than the aroma of his soap, shampoo, or perfume. And specifically, enhancing toiletries is stupidity because you’ll start forming friendships based on bathroom standards. As your bathing becomes more expensive, you tend to choose hi-class friends over sensible ones. Not only do you leave the previous lifestyle behind, but also you ditch old friends with this lifestyle, because in your opinion, the quality of a friendship is defined by the soap, not by the character!
With this soapsuds mentality, he has no idea that he is suffering from psychological muddle. I have seen people with mentality of choosing friends with expensive soaps, sink to the point that one day they start to feel ashamed of their own parents, because his parents don’t live up to the standards of his pricey soap.
I have witnessed these characters’ anxiety first hand when their fathers visit them in the city. And they introduce their father to their friends as “the villager”. These clowns don’t realize that whatever they are today, only because of the hard work of these villagers. If one can’t be gracious to his father, at least avoid lowering yourself to such level. If wealth and soap quality are signs of excellence, then accept Malik Riaz as Socrates, Mian Mansha as Plato and any Moti Wala as Aristotle as they use the most expensive soap!
