KHAIRPUR: A judicial magistrate on Thursday sent Pir Asad Shah Jilani to jail on four-day physical remand in a case pertaining to the alleged torture of a minor domestic maid.

Pir Asad Shah Jillani, a member of an influential family in Ranipur, was arrested by the Khairpur Police after he was accused of torturing his 10-year-old maid Fatima Furriro to death.

The accused was produced before Judicial Magistrate Sobho Dero as police sought 15-day physical remand. The magistrate police rejected the plea and send the accused to jail on four-day physical remand.

Police have also arrested a doctor who claimed that he treated the minor girl for gastroenteritis and the SHO who refused to register the case.

The minor died under mysterious circumstances at the residence of Pir Asad in Ranipur. The victim Fatima Farriro was the daughter of Nadeem Ali, a resident of Naushahro Feroze district

The CCTV footage from the house’s bedroom shows the minor girl in a distressing condition. A video showing marks of torture on the victim’s body went viral over social media.

The mother of the deceased stated that her daughter was working at Asad Shah’s house when she was informed on the phone that her daughter has passed away. The parents of the girl initially denied any occurrence of torture and claimed that Fatima was ill and receiving treatment.

However, SSP Khairpur Mir Rohal Khoso took notice of the incident and ordered ASP Gambat Nauman Zafar to investigate the incident.

He said the girl’s parents had agreed to register a first information report (FIR) of the murder and added that an investigation will be launched after the registration of the case in Ranipur.

He said that further legal action against the suspects would be taken after taking statements of further witnesses. He said police will approach a local court for exhumation and post-mortem of the minor girl.

DIG Sukkur Javeed Jiskani has ordered to suspend SHO Ranipur on his negligence in fulfilling the orders to exhume the body for the post-mortem.

The girl’s mother later changed her statement and said her daughter was tortured to death. She added that her two other daughters are still in custody of Asad Shah.
