Holy Quran’s desecration and OIC apathy

Ambassador Dr. Jamil by Ambassador Dr. Jamil

Reading Time: 3 mins read

Islamophobia is becoming a global epidemic, making life for Muslims in Western nations harder amid the growing hatred against Muslim community.

The hearts of all believers clenched in horror at the terrible episode involving the Holy Quran’s desecration in Sweden on the day of Eidul Adha. Islamophobia and hatred towards Muslims are on the rise in the west, and things are growing worse all the time. Sadly, the OIC platform, which stands for 57 Islamic nations, merely expresses condemnations. It is clear that the issue would only worsen if this Islamic global platform does not take diplomatic action in accordance with international norms.

Muslims in occupied Kashmir and Palestine have been subjected to brutality and oppression. This barbarism has persisted for decades with no end in sight, because neither the OIC is concerned about the misery of Muslims in Kashmir and Palestine nor does it care about the implementation of its own charter.

It should come as no surprise that political interests are what motivate this problem. The leaders of the major OIC nations also have vested interests in Western countries, which prevents them from speaking out against the West.

Even though the OIC’s own charter specifically mentions Palestine and calls for action if the Muslim world is in danger, the OIC continues to ignore the suffering of Kashmiris and Palestinians.

The only thing that the OIC can do is talk for the sake of talking, and the most that can be expected from them is to condemn. The European Union would strike hard against the oppressor if any Western country experienced this kind of persecution since the West is aware of how to implement boycotts, impose sanctions, and take other actions to protect its own citizens.

OIC also has all authority because it was established to carry out the tasks of international organizations like the NATO and the EU. In addition, the OIC had been founded in conformity with the UN Charter.

Burning down our own properties during demonstrations is harmful only to us and does nothing to stop the desecration of the Holy Quran and the crimes done against Muslims in various countries of the world. Expelling the Swedish ambassador and cutting diplomatic ties was a more effective form of protest, as demonstrated by the brotherly country of Morocco.

It is evident that it is against international law to incite religious hatred, and every nation is required to abide by these laws. Unfortunately, OIC has washed its hands by publishing a statement of condemnation, when it could have been urging the world community to enforce these international laws in their countries.

The heads of state should promptly convene an emergency conference in accordance with Article 9 of the OIC Charter and request that the member nations boycott Swedish products. The quickest way to put pressure on these Western nations is to cut ties and boycott their products. In addition to the call for boycott of Sweden’s products from the OIC platform, a resolution should be presented to the United Nations Security Council and the General Assembly.

If this esteemed Muslim organization didn’t move quickly, Islamophobia in the West would worsen. Right-wing politicians in the West will continue to incite hatred towards Muslims in order to further their own narrow political interests, which will ultimately worsen conditions for Muslims in the West. They must act quickly and take action before the issue spirals out of control.
