The current Chief Justice Omar Atta Bandial will step down from his position on September 16 in accordance with Article 179 of the Constitution. Justice Qazi Faiz Isa’s appointment as Chief Justice was yesterday authorized by the country’s President.
The appointment of Justice Qazi Faiz Isa will be effective from September 17 with the retirement of the current Chief Justice. The President of the country, Dr. Arif Alavi, appointed the Chief Justice under Article 175 A3 of the Constitution. Justice Qazi Faiz Isa will be sworn in as Chief Justice on September 17.
Justice Qazi Faez Isai, the senior judge on the Pakistan Supreme Court, has been in the news frequently over the course of his career. The Supreme Judicial Council reviewed the complaint against him on behalf of the President of Pakistan, and then the audio leaks were handed over to the Commission headed by him.

It is important to note that Justice Qazi Faiz Isa drew attention to his involvement in the Supreme Court committee for the investigation of the 2016 Quetta Civil Hospital suicide attack and he was also appointed the head of the committee. He openly criticized the security institutions’ performance during this time.
As a judge in the Supreme Court, Justice Faiz Isa has publicly criticized a number of institutions. Justice Faiz Isa’s entry will be nothing short of fresh air given that the judiciary has remained a suspended organ of the state in recent months.
