KARACHI: The citizens of Karachi are in for another inflationary shock as the dairy farms association is set to hike the price of fresh milk to Rs280 per liter.
According to details, the administration’s and the dairy farm association’s meeting to determine the price of milk concluded without a decision being made.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner and the dairy farm association meeting were unable to reach a consensus, notwithstanding the Commissioner’s absence from the meeting.
The administration was informed by the dairy farm organization that the cost of producing one liter of milk is Rs 242. The dairy farmer begs for an increase in the milk price to Rs 280 per liter due to rising production costs.
The unilateral price hike for milk of 20 rupees per liter has been declared by the Karachi Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association.
The increase in fuel feed prices, according to a representative for the Dairy Farmers Association, forced them to raise milk pricing.
In February this year, stakeholders had increased the loose milk price by Rs20 per liter.
Milk price fixed by the commissioner Karachi has so far proved to be an eyewash for consumers. The official retail price of milk had been jacked up to Rs180 per litre from Rs170 on December 16, 2022. However, retailers, after refusing to sell milk at the official rate, started demanding Rs190 per liter from consumers.
