Message of Martyrs’ Day

Editorial by Editorial
May 25, 2023
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Pakistan Martyrs’ Day is being celebrated across the country today, before which on May 9, Pakistan faced such tragic events that the Pakistani nation deeply regrets. An angry mob with misguided motives targeted military installations, monuments and historical buildings while such incidents tarnish the sentiments of national unity, patriotism and mutual tolerance that any nation should naturally cherish.

On the other hand, after the events of May 9, dozens of political leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaaf left the party and during this time they condemned the events of May 9 and also expressed solidarity with the Pakistan Army. On such occasion, the question arose whether PTI was directly or indirectly involved in the events of May 9. Because those who left the party have made similar accusations against PTI.

Some political leaders are likening PTI leaders who left the party to flying birds who did not leave the party voluntarily, but were kicked out. A verse by Umeer Najmi is relevant:

نکال لایا ہوں ایک پنجرے سے اک پرندہ

اب اس پرندے کے دل سے پنجرہ نکالنا ہے

Here it is important to distinguish between the collective situation of some political leaders and the entire political party. The federal government has hinted to ban PTI, which can be traced from the statement of Defense Minister Khawaja Asif.

Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan openly condemned the May 9 incidents and said that his party leaders are under severe pressure. It is better that other political leaders of PTI do not criticize them. Imran Khan’s stand against the incidents is undoubtedly commendable, but the seriousness of the allegations leveled against him does not diminish by this.

The government says that on the one hand you have targeted military installations and on the other hand you are condemning the same, but all these cases require investigation. To prove any allegation, concrete evidence and evidence is necessary, which only the court has the power to decide. On this occasion, the federal government must understand that the people of the country are more politically aware than they used to be 10 or 20 years ago.

Therefore, instead of exploiting the situation for its own political gain, the government has to update its practices and policies to address the public concerns, as blame-shifting undermines public trust.

Today, as a nation, we have to pay tribute to the sacrifices of our military men who sacrificed themselves for the sanctity of their country while fighting the enemies of the country with bravery. Their unwavering determination, great sacrifice and unparalleled bravery cannot be ignored in any way.

There is a need to give priority to national interests. National unity, tolerance and mutual cooperation are very important to deal with the challenges facing Pakistan.

A common Pakistani also need to learn from the events of May 9 and ignore the complexities of the country’s political scene and adopt the eternal principles of politeness and respect, honesty and love for the country, this is the special message of today.
