For the mayor of Karachi, heated rhetoric is going on in various parties, in which PTI, Jamaat-e-Islami(JI) and People’s Party( PPP) are especially important. With the involvement of big political players, the situation of the election of Mayor Karachi has become more tense. There is a series of rhetoric against and in favor of each other on by different political representatives.
The spokesperson of Tehreek-e-Insaaf, while announcing his support for the candidate of JI for the mayor of Karachi, alleged that the PPP is involved in pre-poll rigging. The PTI spokesperson also alleged that elected local body representatives are being targeted and abducted by the Sindh Police. Due to the allegations, the political narrative has been significantly affected while various questions are being raised on the transparency of the elections.
On the other hand, JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman says that giving powers to local bodies under the constitution has its own importance. We are determined to secure these powers of local bodies. Rehman said that PTI has promised him unconditional support, while JI is offering the post of Deputy Mayor to PTI. This alliance between the two parties is also important for the election of the mayor.
Nasir Hussain Shah, the leader of People’s Party has said that by implementing the vision of PPP Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the post of mayor will be given to the candidate of People’s Party. While constitutionally, the party which gets the numerical advantage, the same party gets the mayorship. We are ready to accept the results of the elections without obstructing the electoral process. After different statements came out from the three sides, this question has become important that who has the numerical superiority JI or PPP?
