“Benefits ” of Nepotism in Politics

Shahid Shahnawaz by Shahid Shahnawaz

The admirable system of nepotism in the country’s politics, i.e., relatives and generation after generation holding the positions of Prime Minister, President and other positions, is subjected to criticism for no reason.

The point is that in Pakistan, a developing country in South Asia, no one explains the benefits of nepotism to the public, and we have never been educated well, so we dislike nepotism. Let us examine the main impact of this process on the country’s politics.

Nepotism has become an incredibly unique and valuable tradition in a beautiful country like Pakistan. Here, not only political families but groups of political parties are seen singing the songs of the monopoly of a single family. The father used to be the President, the son became the Foreign Minister and is now a candidate for the Premiership

Similarly, the father was once the prime minister, then the daughter became entitled to the premiership, and then her son also enters the country’s politics very easily.

In fact, politics in Pakistan is a type of monarchy in which if we take the example of a tiger ruling the jungle, no one can inherit it except the little tiger, so the beauty of this system lies in its simplicity. What is the need for tedious democratic system and voting when we have ready successors?

Consider that nepotism in politics is such a beautiful thing that politics brings together different families who have known each other for years. If some hungry, naked poor people come and sit at the dinner table among these politicians, what will the poor people eat and who will they talk to?

The dinner table is actually a business gathering where young politicians learn a lot from their fathers as well as uncles, aunts and father’s friends. They are not vegetable or fruit sellers, but big traders selling promises and manifestos and can sit with people of their own kind.

The interesting thing is that in the last 75 years, Pakistan has reached the position it has reached with an unprecedented succession of policies under nepotism, which would not have been possible without nepotism. If any politician of the country had allowed education to develop, today our country would have suffered degradation like India following the true path of democracy.

The scientific development that this writer is talking about may not be understood by the readers.

Here there is a meteorological department which predicts that the weather will be dry today even before the rain. Even before the storm, light winds are predicted so that the people of Pakistan are not too worried.

In the same way, we have produced such great scientists that even Aristotle would be ashamed to see them and even Plato would be ashamed, who believe in rote books instead of arguments, innovation and invention is nothing less than a shameful thing for our scientists۔

Who needs change and development when we have become a nation based on prophecy. Where is the wisdom in ignoring the wisdom gained from decades of political experience? Thus, Pakistan also ensures that the invaluable strategies of its politicians continue to be passed down from generation to generation. What is the need to implement the new ideas and innovations of the youth when the methods tried and tested for centuries are working so well?

Forget wills and legal battles over properties, political power is the ultimate inheritance in Pakistan, which comes with many benefits. Political families can and have easily passed their wealth, connections and influence from one generation to the next. Thus, a ruling class of the aristocracy continues to give power to one after another like winning a lottery. There is no role of the poor in this because governance is their birthright.

importantly, nepotism has made life much easier for the ambitious youth of Pakistan. People don’t have to struggle for a long time to climb the ladder of success, but the key to success is only that you are born in a right and famous politician family, and that’s it. Who takes the hassle of going through competitive job interviews, rigorous exams and practical experiences? It is a time-saving shortcut that allows the younger generation to jump straight into the halls of power without any hard work.

Nepotism in politics also provides never-ending entertainment to the public, with political dramas, family feuds and power struggles becoming a part of every household’s evening gossip. This never-ending reality show continues to fascinate people from generation to generation, while the people have a lot of time to talk about it.

Although nepotism is considered negative in other countries around the world, Pakistan has developed a national tendency to view this phenomenon in a positive way. We are an Islamic republic in which nepotism is growing and flourishing more than both Islam and the republic, which people bless with morning and evening prayers.

Perhaps it is the result of people’s prayers that today the third generation of political families is also busy enjoying power without any effort. It is necessary that we also forget the old ways and adopt the golden principles of nepotism so that something good can happen to us too.
