It is necessary to investigate whether NAB is a politically used institution or an institution that is performing its duties well.
The recent arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan by NAB has created a lot of controversy. Although it is premature to draw conclusions, it is important to investigate whether Imran Khan’s arrest was politically motivated or based on concrete evidence. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while holding a press conference yesterday, expressed his party’s long-standing opposition to NAB and suggested closing the institution. It is important to recognize that such statements come from a political perspective, as Bilawal Bhutto’s party has been critical of the NAB and its alleged bias. However, this criticism does not eliminate the need for an independent institution to deal with corruption, but also to ensure the credibility of NAB and address concerns of political abuse.
Given the controversial nature of NAB’s operations and allegations of political misuse, it is imperative that the government takes these concerns seriously. A thorough investigation of both the past and present practices of the NAB should
be conducted to determine the veracity of the allegations. This investigation should be independent, transparent and free from any political influence, so that accountability and the rule of justice can be established.
In order to maintain public trust and principles of justice, the government should initiate a sincere and impartial investigation into the conduct of NAB.
