Need for strong Judiciary

Recent developments in Pakistan have again brought attention to the unpredictable and intricate dynamics of the country’s political landscape. The recent detention of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan not only caused widespread anxiety but also aroused significant concerns about the functioning of the legal system.

It is important to assess the country situation objectively. Imran Khan, who has grown to be the most well-liked leader in the country, particularly among the younger generation, has now attained the peak of his popularity.

International critics have taken notice of Imran Khan’s arrest, but it is troubling that Brad Sherman, a congressman from the United States, compared the episode to a military coup. The assertions need to be carefully examined because they have the potential to significantly impact public opinion.

Meanwhile, the Al-Qadir Trust scandal has prompted the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (N) to accuse the former premier of corruption. It was filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). It’s crucial to keep in mind the innocent until proven guilty rule. However, the NAB’s reputation has come under question as a result of recent events.

The public has reservations and suspicions about the NAB Court’s decision to acquit the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, Hamza Shehbaz, and the First Lady, Nusrat Shehbaz. These events created some serious suspicions regarding NAB. The institution must allay these worries and increase the public’s faith in its mission.

In the wake of the federal government’s efforts to clip NAB’s wings, the striking discrepancy between how NAB treated government members and the opposition has caused some concerns and given the appearance that the judicial system is unfair. The narrative is supported by NAB’s harsh attempt to arrest Imran Khan by Rangers.

A fair and just system should treat all people equally, regardless of their political affiliations. Pakistan desperately requires a robust and effective justice system that can offer impartiality, openness, and fairness to the populace without favoring the powerful or the vulnerable. The public’s trust can only be preserved through such a structure. The establishment should support the rule of law and all citizens’ rights, rather than influencing or undermining the court system.

It is important to approach Imran Khan’s detention and the accusations made against him with objectivity and prudence. PTI Chief is entitled to a just and fair trial. More than ever, Pakistan needs a robust and independent justice system that can deliver justice regardless of political ties or external pressure. Only after that can Pakistan take steps towards a future with greater equality.
