As the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, our beloved homeland has a system of democracy where the position of the Prime Minister holds the most authority. The Prime Minister is not only the head of the government but also represents the nation at the global level.
It is also incumbent upon the Prime Minister to supervise the functioning of various government departments and to play an important role in shaping the country’s policies and direction. Shahbaz Sharif, who assumed the post of the Prime Minister a year ago, is under public criticism due to the government’s performance regarding the country’s economy.
Even if a biased statement is given in favor of the present government, unfortunately this government could not fulfill the expectations of the people in any way. The country’s economy is suffering from rampant inflation, widening trade deficit and heavy debt burden.
Before coming to power, all PDM leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, severely criticized the inflation of the Imran Khan era, but when they came to power, they cannot keep their promises to the people.
Despite promising to bring positive change in the economy, the current PDM government not only failed to improv the lives of the people, but now it is becoming difficult for the people to get basic human rights.
If this period is compared with the Imran Khan period, it cannot be denied that inflation was under control to some extent during the PTI period. Public sentiments were not positive in Imran Khan’s favor either, however the increase in Imran Khan’s popularity after PDM came in power, and it can be attributed to PDM itself.
The Imran Khan government had taken steps to take the country’s foreign policy on a new path and to increase relations with other countries, including the US and Russia. The country was promoting ties for investment rather than debt.
Recently, in one of his Twitter messages, Shahbaz Sharif alleged that Imran Khan has tried to increase relations with the US, whereas in the past, Imran Khan used to blame the US for bringing down his government.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also alleged that Imran Khan has harmed Pakistan’s foreign interests, but it is not possible to achieve national interests by blaming each other without presenting a concrete plan for the future.
There is a need for the Prime Minister not only to identify public problems but also to offer practical solutions to them. Creating consensus and taking care of the needs of important sections of the society, especially the poor and the disadvantaged, is also the primary duty of the government.
