KARACHI: Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA) has revealed that the sale of cars during the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2022-23 has decreased by 50.30 per cent as compared to the same period last year.
The data provided by PAMA shows that 85,776 cars were sold during July-March 2022-23, which is a significant drop from the 172,612 units sold in the corresponding period last year.
The data also showed that the sale of Honda Civic and City decreased by 57.05 per cent, as only 12,381 units were sold this year compared to 28,830 units sold last year. Similarly, the sale of Toyota Corolla and Yaris decreased by 63.39 per cent, with only 15,994 units sold this year compared to 43,695 units sold last year.
On the other hand, the sale of Suzuki Swift saw a massive increase of 1627.16 per cent, with 8,584 units sold this year compared to just 497 units sold last year. However, the sale of Suzuki Cultus and WagonR decreased to 6,233 units and 5,022 units, respectively, during the current year, which is a significant drop from the sale of 17,686 units and 16,916 units in the same period last year.
The sale of Suzuki Alto also witnessed a sharp decline of 42.25 per cent, with only 30,744 units sold this year compared to 53,241 units sold last year. Additionally, the sale of Suzuki Bolan decreased to 3,865 units compared to 9,562 units in the same period last year.
The decrease in car sales can be attributed to several factors, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the global economy and led to supply chain disruptions. The increase in car prices due to rising inflation and a shortage of auto parts is also believed to have played a role in the decline in car sales.
