Justice delayed is justice denied

Editorial by Editorial

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised the flag of truth in front of the world’s worst oppression and during the era of Jahiliyyat (ignorance) the last prophet showed it by providing justice and fairness to the people. The government of Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa ﷺ was called the State of Madinah.

If we look at the era of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ, we find that the Prophet ﷺ made a treaty of Hudaybiyah with the Quraysh and adhered to it so strictly that examples are given to this day.

Going forward, the grandson of the Prophet (ﷺ) sacrificed himself and his family to give life to Islam, which we remember as the Karbala incident. Yazid oppression and Imam Hussain (RA) are considered as metaphors of justice and the word of truth in every age.

When Pakistan was established on August 14, 1947, the Muslims of the subcontinent got the hope that they will follow the Holy Quran, a system of justice and fairness will be established in the new homeland where they can follow the principles of Islam.

The saddest thing is that the implementation of the principles of justice in Pakistan is a far cry, even the basic requirements of providing justice are not fulfilled. For the last 5 years,  380,436 cases filed in the high courts of the country are pending.

For the last 5 years, 51744 cases are pending in the Supreme Court, 17104 in the Islamabad High Court, 179425 in the Lahore High Court, 85 781 in the Sindh High Court.

Similarly, 4 471 cases are pending in Balochistan High Court while 41911 cases are pending in Peshawar High Court. Was hearing cases not included in the duties of the High Courts?

When Imran Khan reached a local court of Islamabad, Islamabad High Court or Supreme Court, simultaneously the judges’ tickers start playing on media channels. So and so judge reached the High Court.

Is the state of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan ensuring its people access to their basic human rights? If yes, how come so many cases were filed and then pending in the courts?

How many cases are registered in numerous police stations spread across the streets of our country and how many crimes are committed, but no one registers their complaint due to stigma and fear of others.

There is a need for our judiciary and justice system to wake up from the sleep of negligence and provide the people with their basic human rights. May the people not be left at the mercy of criminals.
