The politics of strife, instability and demeaning each other within the country has been practiced to such an extent that even the execution of clear constitutional matters in the light of the instructions of the constitution has become a complicated and difficult task.
Many incidents came before the nation at different stages of the years-long confrontation between the government and the opposition. During this period, the parties used different tactics to humiliate each other, in which sometimes the one side become victorious, and at some stage the other side won. The PTI governments in Punjab and KPK dissolved their assemblies in January after prolonged confrontations in the worst political standoff in an atmosphere of intolerance and mutual distrust.
The federal government, which is in the hands of the anti-PTI political alliance, tried its best to somehow make the PTI’s decision to dissolve the provincial assemblies ineffective and unsuccessful. For this purpose, efforts were also made to change the position in both houses, but the government could not succeed in its efforts and both the provincial assemblies were finally dissolved.
There is no doubt that the country is struggling with the worst economic conditions, the economy is badly damaged and there are clear threats of bankruptcy hanging over the country’s economy.
The previous government was also affected by the worst condition of economy and the deterioration of the economy played a major role in its collapse and provided a powerful justification to the opposition to table a no-confidence motion against the previous government.
But unfortunately, despite the change of government, there was no positive change in the state of the economy, rather the situation became worse than before and still there are no signs of improvement and recovery.
Since the fall of its government, PTI is continually demanding immediate general elections in the country and the party and its leadership is of the view that elections are vital for betterment of the country economy. On the other hand, the present government if of the opinion that in the current fragile economic situation the country cannot afford early general elections.
The government’s argument is that it is necessary to revive the economy before the elections and in the current weak economic conditions the country cannot afford to spend heavily on elections. In particular, the government has been emphasizing that instead of burdening the national treasury with double expenses in the case of separate elections in the provinces and the federation, it is better to hold elections in both the provinces and the federation at the same time. But PTI is not ready to compromise on this issue and sit down with the government.
It is a clear constitutional requirement to hold new elections within ninety days of the dissolution of the assemblies, in which there is no complexity or ambiguity, but despite this, an atmosphere of disagreement and complexity has been established on this issue to such an extent that the Supreme Court has to intervene.
The emergence of a political crisis over a clear constitutional issue is actually evidence of the fact that our national politics is trapped in a great moral tragedy. Having a different opinion is the beauty of politics and a means to reach the best goal, but unfortunately in our national politics, difference of opinion has become another name for enmity. Here, no party is ready to tolerate the existence of the other. Everyone does not hesitate to go to extreme lengths to keep their egos high.
It is clear that huge expenditure is incurred on the elections and then during the period of turmoil of the elections, the rest of the affairs of the state remain at a standstill. Is the current economic condition of the country able to bear the burden of this expensive process? PTI also knows this very well, but in any case, it considered the demand for elections as a matter of ego and when nothing was done, it created a political crisis by dissolving the provincial assemblies under its influence. While the government also has no confidence in PTI, it is on the path of delaying the elections under the guise of economic conditions, fearing that PTI may not win the elections.
According to an estimate, 70 billion rupees will be spent on the election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and after six months, another 70 billion rupees will be spent on the election of the National Assembly in the same provinces. While the expenses that will be incurred on the elections of the National and Provincial Assemblies of the remaining two provinces are separate. Thus, how much this game of elections will further bend the back of the ruined economy, neither those who demanded immediate elections had any concern nor did the judiciary bothered to consider this point.
In addition to this practice of separate elections, the order of the election will be permanently deteriorated and the series of separate expenses that will occur, the political and economic implications and dangers that will arise. Unfortunately, they were also not given due credit.
All these problems can be solved, but for this politician have to come forward with full seriousness, sincerity and national spirit and keeping stubbornness, obstinacy and intolerance aside.
If this does not happen, this very frivolous style of politics of the politicians will be of no use except for the desolation of the country. For the survival of the country, it is necessary for the patriotic circles to play a role in bringing all the warring politicians together to resolve the issues through negotiation.
